Implementing best-practice exercise interventions for seniors' fall prevention (2026)
The role of exercise in preventing falls can be significant. Knowing what exercise programs are effective and how to engage seniors to increase their level of activity can be challenging. Hosted by Pamela Fuselli from Parachute, this webinar features three experts in exercise interventions to prevent fall in seniors, Dr. Kathryn Sibley from the University of Manitoba, Dr. Marla Beauchamp from the McMaster University, and Dr. Teresa Liu-Ambrose from the University of British Columbia. Panelists share current research findings, best practices and recommendations. They discuss integrating exercise programs in the community and healthcare system, realistic expectations from exercise programs in preventing falls, and specifics on exercises to use in group class settings, including with more complex considerations (e.g., related to mobility, posture and chronic conditions). Viewers will gain an understanding of what are current best practices for preventing falls through exercise, learn about what to expect from exercise programs, and explore how exercise initiatives apply to complex conditions. A Q&A session follows the presentations.
